Adult ADHD Assessment

Many adults come to wonder whether ADHD explains long-standing patterns: difficulty with focus, organisation, follow-through, restlessness, or a sense of having tried harder than most people just to keep up.

A formal assessment can offer clarity, whether the assessment supports a diagnosis, suggests another explanation, or provides a clearer understanding of your current difficulties.

Your assessment package includes

  • 90-minute comprehensive clinical interview
  • Review of developmental, educational and relevant clinical history
  • Review of school reports and supporting documentation (where available)
  • Standardised ADHD questionnaires and rating scales
  • Collateral information (where appropriate and with your consent)
  • Consideration of differential diagnoses and co-occurring presentations
  • Comprehensive clinical formulation
  • Comprehensive written report
  • Personalised recommendations
  • 50-minute feedback session

The assessment also considers other factors that may contribute to similar difficulties, helping ensure conclusions are based on a comprehensive clinical evaluation rather than rating scales alone. Additional cognitive assessment may be recommended where clinically indicated if it is likely to contribute meaningfully to diagnostic clarification or to better understand your cognitive profile.

What this looks like in practice

The clinical interview explores your current concerns, personal and family history, and how difficulties with attention, executive functioning, organisation and impulsivity show up across different areas of your life.

Collateral information, from a partner, family member, or someone else who knows you well, can add valuable context, and is included with your consent where appropriate.

If cognitive assessment is recommended, this will be discussed with you and explained clearly before proceeding, along with what it adds to the overall picture.

Your report brings all of this together into clear findings and practical recommendations, whatever the outcome of the assessment.

Frequently asked questions

[based on your actual intake process]
Different organisations may have specific documentation requirements. As part of your initial contact, we'll discuss what you intend to use the assessment for, so that any specific requirements can be addressed before the assessment begins.
Not everyone does. Additional cognitive assessment may be recommended where clinically indicated if it is likely to contribute meaningfully to diagnostic clarification or to better understand your cognitive profile; this is discussed with you individually rather than applied as a standard step for everyone.
[give a realistic timeframe]
Diagnostic conclusions are reached only after all assessment information has been reviewed and integrated. Findings are discussed during your feedback session and explained in your written report.
If the assessment supports a diagnosis of ADHD, and you're interested in discussing medication, this can be explored with your GP or an appropriate medical specialist. Psychologists do not prescribe medication.
The process still offers useful information about how you think and function, regardless of the outcome, along with practical recommendations.
